Reception, Defense and Libero Seminar in Santo Domingo
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, November 26, 2014 – An
International Seminar focused on Reception, Defense and Libero
is currently being conducted at the FIVB/NORCECA Regional
Development Centre in Santo Domingo under the supervision of
FIVB Instructor Juan Cartagena of Puerto Rico.
Over 50 participants from Costa Rica, Haiti, Hawaii and
Dominican Republic are taking part in the seminar that runs
until November 28 at the Volleyball Complex located in Juan
Pablo Duarte Olympic Centre.
Cartagena is being assisted by Vicente Paniagua, a local
instructor with several years of experience coaching junior and
senior national teams.
Nelson Ramirez, director of the Development Centre, attended the
opening ceremony held on Tuesday accompanied by the instructors
and Daniel Lara, sport director of Salome Ureña Superior
Pedagogy Institute.
Ramirez encouraged the participants, mostly physical education
teachers, to take advantage of the opportunity to learn new
techniques and knowledge and use them in the different regions
where they are currently working to develop the game.
“It is important for all the participants to pay attention to
the contents of the seminar, as this is fundamental for the
development of the athletes you are working with,” Ramirez said.
“It is important to teach them the right way and defense and
reception are critical technical aspects in the game.”
Ramirez said the seminar forms part of the development program
implemented by NORCECA Confederation and FIVB to benefit all
National Federations category I and II.
The opening ceremony closed with a round of applause to
recognize Dominican Republic libero player Brenda Castillo, who
recently was named the Most Valuable Player of the women’s
volleyball tournament at the XXII Central American and Caribbean
Games in Veracruz, Mexico. |
