Redemption for Canada on Battle with Bulgaria

 

   

SUMMERSIDE, Canada, June 14, 2015 - Canada came back after Friday’s five-set loss to triumph over Bulgaria 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20) in FIVB World League Intercontinental Round Pool C play in Prince Edward Island on Saturday.

 

Gordon Perrin led scoring for Canada with 17 points. Perrin had a scoring contest with Bulgaria’s Miroslav Gradinarov, who finished with a match high of 18 points. Steven Marshall and Max Burt scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Canadian side.

 

In Hoffman Estates, United States, Aaron Russell fired 20 points to guide USA in their 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-17) victory over Poland at the Sear’s Centre Arena on Saturday, and pick up their sixth victory in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball World League.

 

Russell outduelled Poland’s Bartosz Kurek in scoring. The Polish scoring giant was limited to 13 points. USA’s Matthew Anderson scored 14 points and Murphy Troy charted 10 markers.

 

In Havana, Cuba, Argentina dominated Cuba 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21) to split victories at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum in Pool C.

 

Argentina’s Jose Luis Gonzalez and Cuba’s Osmany Santiago Uriarte shared the scoring limelight with 12 points apiece. Argentina slightly edged Cuba in attacks 39-35 but the former had lesser errors in the match.

 

In Podgorica, Montenegro, A loud crowd cheered Montenegro past Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-21) in their FIVB World League match on Saturday.


Puerto Rico struggled to receive Marko Bojic’s dominating serve. He won seven serve points, which was more than Puerto Rico and the rest of Montenegro combined.

 

Bojic finished with a match-high 17 points. Vojin Cacic and Milos Culafic each added 11 points for Montenegro. Puerto Rico was led by Maurice Torres, who recorded 12
points. Steven Morales added 11 points for the visitors.

 

In Tepic, Mexico, Emanuel Kohut and Milan Bencz combined for 24 points in Slovakia’s 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) win over Mexico in Pool G.

 

Kohut scored 14 points, while Bencz contributed 10 points to lead Slovakia, while Daniel Vargas scored 13 points for Mexico on a losing effort.
