Reer James of Honduras sets new Central American record

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, August 17, 2017. - Middle blocker Reer James of Honduras set a new Central American record as the top scorer in a match with 25 points at  an AFECAVOL Girls’ U-18 Central American Championship.

Reer James scored impressive 25 points on 11 kills, 11 serves and 3 blocks after her team defeated El Salvador 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-18) on opening day of the twelfth edition of the event on August 17 at Jorge A. Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

In an interesting fact, according to AFECAVOL registers, the record holder with 24 points was Gabriela Funes of El Salvador while her team dramatically beat Honduras 3-2 (25-19, 26-24, 17-25, 22-25, 15-11) during the previous edition in San Jose, Costa Rica on the exact same day  but with two years apart on August 17, 2015.

The first player to set the record as top scorer in match at this age-group category was Allison Font of Costa Rica with 23 points while her team prevailed over Guatemala 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-14) on September 3 2013 in Guatemala City during the tenth edition of the event.

With her performance, Reer James becomes one of the rising athletes in the AFECAVOL zone.
