Richard Smith earns MVP honors in Aruba
ORANJESTAD, Aruba, May 19, 2013 – Costa Rica’s Richard Smith,
whose explosive spikes carried his team to the victory at the
NORCECA Second Round Group L Tournament, earned the honors as
Most Valuable Player of the competition.
Smith finished the event with 79 points for an average of 19.75
per game, second only to the top scorer Darwin Colina of Curacao
who finished with 86 points.
Costa Rican Alvaro Pescante took away the honors as best digger,
best receiver and best libero while his teammate Jeffrey
Calderon was recognized as the best spiker.
Three players from Aruba received individual awards during the
closing ceremony.
Eargenell De Cuba was the best server, Jonathan Jones was
awarded as best blocker and Daan Kleinbussink as the best
setter.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Filomena Daniel-Curiel,
president of the Aruban Volleyball Association, and Mushtaque
Mohammed, vice president of NORCECA and member of FIVB Board of
Administration. |
