LAUSANNE, Switzerland, March 26, 2015 - The Rio 2016 Organising
Committee has released the daily competition schedule for the
Olympic Games, with beach volleyball scheduled to take place at
Copacabana Beach from August 6-18 and volleyball at the
Maracanăzinho from August 6-21.
“We have produced a schedule that is well balanced and offers
the public a wide variety of sports and medal events from the
start to the finish of the Games,” said Agberto Guimarăes, Rio
2016’s Executive Director of Sport.
The Games will officially begin on August 5, 2016, when the
legendary Maracană Stadium hosts the opening ceremony. The beach
volleyball and volleyball competitions will begin on the
following day.
The Maracanăzinho,
which is one of Brazil's traditional homes for volleyball, will
also host the FIVB Volleyball World League Group 1 Finals when
they take place in Rio de Janeiro from July 14-19 later this
year. Beach volleyball will take place at the world famous
Copacabana Beach, which is set to provide another iconic venue
for an Olympic beach volleyball tournament.
The full competition schedule, showing the specific session
times, will be published on 31 March, when ticket sales start
for Brazilian residents and the list of approved ticket
resellers (ATRs) for overseas territories is released. |
