Rodriguez Fung hammered 23 points while Alondra
Tapia and Alanae Margaritha each contributed 15
tallies as Dominican Republic defeated Egypt 3-1
(23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13) in Pool B of the
U18 FIVB Girls’ World Championship.
The victory gave the Dominican Republic a 2-2
win-loss record and the pass to the round of 16.
The loss left Egypt winless at 0-4 and will play
for the positions 17-20.
The Dominicans had the upper hand in blocks 10-8
and aces 8-7. The winners committed 28 unforced
errors to 26 by the losers.
Dominican Captain Crismeily Rodriguez chipped in
with 11 points as the fourth player in double
digits for the winners.
Toqaalla Eassa and Malah Shahein each had 13
points for the defeated side.
In Pool C, Thailand beat Puerto Rico in straight
sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20). The Puerto
Ricans finished at 1-3 with their only victory
via forfeit against the no-show Nigeria.
Donphon Sinpho led Thailand with 14 points
followed by Ampha Sonsurat with 11. Puerto
Ricans Ana Fuertes and Valeria Pagan finished
with 17 and 10 points, respectively. |
