Rodriguez and Haddock get a sunny gold in San Pedrito
MANZANILLO, Mexico, Junio 1, 2014 - Puerto Ricans Roberto
Rodríguez and Erik Haddock won the gold medal of the fourth stop
of the VIII Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit.
Rodríguez and Haddock beat Juan Revuelta and Ricardo Galindo of
México 2 (21-12, 21-14) in front of a crowd of more than 3,000
people at the San Pedrito Beach Stadium that was temporarily
installed for the event.
“We have always played against the crowd. That does not affect
us anymore. We had plenty of confidence and were very well
prepared, so we could get the win”, said Haddock.
“I had never won a stop of the tour here. Playing against the
crowd was an extra motivation. We prepared well and everything
that happens from now on is part of our process towards the
Central American Games,” Rodriguez stated.
The bronze medal was for Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter, of
Canada 1, who won against Derek Olson and Kevin McColloch of
USA1 (21-17, 21-17).
In Men's semifinals Rodríguez and Haddock matched Binstock and
Schachter. The triumph was decided on Puerto Rican side with
scores of 21-16 and 21-19.
In the other match, Revuelta and Galindo had beaten Olson and
McColloch of USA1 (20-22, 21-18, 16-14). “Despite this loss, it
was great to get in to the finals, playing at home in front of
my people and my family and winning a medal. There were some
tactical issues but I think we can solve it as time goes by,”
stated the Colima’s native Galindo.
The Norceca Tour will continue with the next stop in
Huixquilucan, Mexico, on this week.
