Roman and Morales: Players of the Year in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, December 3, 2015 – Middle-blockers Mannix Roman and Lynda Morales have been selected by the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation as the male and female players of the year, respectively, to represent the sport discipline in the 2015 Olympic Gala.

The event is organized every year by the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee presided over by Sara Rosario.

“After evaluating several candidates with good credentials we have selected these two excellent athletes who have had a good performance in 2015 with both the national teams and in their respective Superior Leagues,” said Nelson Perez Cruz, President of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation.

Roman, who has been one of the most dominant middle-blockers in the Men’s Superior League and is a starter with the national squad, had an outstanding performance with the Puerto Rican Team that won the bronze medal at the Pan American Cup and the NORCECA Championship, besides the historical fourth place at the Toronto Pan American Games last July.

On the other hand, Morales began the year capturing her first national championship with the Criollas of Caguas. She was a starter for the team that finished sixth at the Pan American Cup, the Grand Prix (fourth place), Pan American Games (fourth place) and NORCECA Championship (third place).

Morales, who is currently playing in the Philippines League, was selected as member of the All-Star Team at the NORCECA Championship as Second Middle-Blocker.
