Romina Cornelio wins Rookie of the Year honors
SANTO DOMINGO – Wing spiker Romina Cornelio of the Cristo Rey
club, was elected Rookie of the Year of the 2019 season in the
Women's Superior Volleyball League through the vote of the
journalists covering the event.
The native of La Vega was the 15th best scorer in the Regular
Series with 70 points that included a high mark of 16 against
Mirador on April 13.
Cornelio who played in eight games - seven as a starter in the
initial squad - averaged 10 points per game and 11.8 in the
first five games played by her side.
Cornelio was chosen over the middle blockers Estefhany Rabit,
Cristo Rey and Radaisy Valdez, of Guerreras.
The 16 blocks of Rabit earned him the seventh place among the
defenders at the net. In total he finished with 44 points.
Valdez opened in the regular side in the 9 matches of Guerreras
and scored 30 points with 10 blocks.
Other players mentioned for the honor were the setters Ailyn Mía
Liberato of Guerreras and Henessys Lalane of the Caribeñas. |
