Rookie Wilmare Rivera: MVP of Fifth Week in PR
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, February 26, 2019 – Wilmarie Rivera, the
rookie setter of Amazonas de Trujillo Alto, was named as Most
Valuable Player of the fifth week of the Puerto Rican Women’s
Superior League.
Rivera and her Amazonas played to a 2-1 win-loss record good to
improve to the fourth place in the standings (13 points/5-6).
Over the week, the young setter had 80 assists in setting to go
along with 19 points (nine attacks, six blocks and four aces)
and 42 defenses.
Rivera is currently third in settings (190), fifth in aces (17)
and eleventh in defenses (133).

The rest of the Ideal Team of the week was completed by opposite
attacker Génesis Collazo of Toa Baja, Vanessa Vélez (Trujillo
Alto) and Keila Rodríguez (Aibonito) as outside hitters, the
middle blockers Amanda Vásquez (Mayaguez) and Alba Hernández
(Trujillo Alto) and the libero Deborah Seilhamer (Aibonito).
After five weeks of actions, Paulina Prieto (Juncos) returned to
the top place in scoring with a total of 248 and also leads in
attacks with 223 kills.
Neira Ortiz (Aibonito) is the leader in blocks with 42 while
Legna Hernández (Naranjito) and Adriana Viñas Joy (Trujillo
Alto) share the lead in aces with 25 apiece.
In reception and liberos the legendary Seilhamer leads with 225
passes and an average of 10.28%.
Kathia Sanchez (Mayaguez) is keeping under control the
department of assists with 276 settings. |
