DURANGO, México, September 29, 2021 - European
powerhouses Russia and Italy are the finalists
of the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World
Championship and will compete for the gold medal
on Wednesday.
Serbia and defending champions the United States
will meet earlier in the bronze medal match.
Russia came out of the gate firing on all
cylinders as they completely dominated Serbia in
the first two sets. The third portion of the
match was closer, but also ended with the
Russians on top (25-13, 25-8, 25-21).
The winners of the 2015 and 2017 editions of the
tournament, Italy needed just three sets to
prevail over defending champions the United
States (25-23, 25-18, 25-22) and make it to the
final for a fourth-straight time.
The match that will determine the fifth-place
will reunite Brazil and Romania while
Poland and Turkey will play for seventh.
Guaranteed in the top ten, the
Dominican Republic and Argentina are the
candidates for ninth-place.
The 11th and 12th positions are between Thailand
and Slovakia.
Peru and Mexico will compete for the 13th place while
Canada and Puerto Rico will compete for the 15th
