DURANGO, Mexico, September 29, 2021 - Russia
convincingly defeated Italy in straight sets 3-0
(25-16, 25-17, 25-20) to clinch the FIVB U18
Girls’ Volleyball World Championship on
Wednesday night.
Three Russian players -Natalia Suvorova, Alina
Popova and Varvara Sergeeva- all finished with
12 points each. Anastasiia Kapralova added 10 to
the victory.
The Russian team scored a jaw-dropping 18 blocks
against 8 by the Italians, including five each
by Suvorova and Sergeeva.
The winners made only 10 errors compared to 19
by the Italians and held a 6-5 slight margin in
aces.
In the match for third place, United States
defeated Serbia 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 26-28, 25-18)
while Brazil beat Romania 3-0 (25-17, 25-14,
25-12) for fifth place.
In the match for 7th place, Turkey defeated
Poland 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 27-25) while Argentina
defeated Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-20, 25-17,
25-18) for the ninth spot.. |
