TOKYO, Japan, August 3, 2021 – Russia became the
first semifinalist of the men’s volleyball
tournament of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after a
3-0 (25-21, 30-28, 25-22) victory over Canada on
Monday.
Dmitry Volkov led Russia with 15 points and
Maxim Mikhaylov was next with 14. John Gordon
Perrin and Ryan Sclater finished with 15 and 14,
respectively, for Canada.
Both teams scored with 45 attacks, but Russia
got the upper hand in blocks 8-7 and dominated
8-4 in the service-winners category.
In other quarterfinals, Brazil beat Japan 3-0
(25-20, 26-22, 25-20), Argentina outlasted Italy
3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 14-25, 15-12) and
France overcame Poland 3-2 (21-25, 25-22, 21-25,
25-21, 15-9). |
