Rwanda, Australia, New Zealand and Scotland to Female Semis in Bahamas

NASSAU, Bahamas, July 20, 2017 – The female pairs of Rwanda, Australia, New Zealand and Scotland moved into the semifinals of the beach volleyball tournament of the Youth Commonwealth Games Bahamas 2017 following their success at the quarterfinals phase of the competition on Thursday.

Rwanda’s Valentine Munezero and Penelope Musabyimana trounced Vanuatu’s Rose Mary Moise and Luduine Tebeim 2-0 (21-4, 21-14) in the first match of the day and then Australia’s Rebecca Ingram and Carrie Van Rensburg rolled over Trinidad & Tobago’s Tysan Selvon and Ebony Williams 2-0 (21-7, 21-8).

The third match of the women’s segment saw New Zealanders Ella Akkerman and Jasmine Pepi-Milton winning a terrific duel against England’s Yasmine Kaashoek and Ellena Austin 2-1 (21-16, 11-21, 15-11) in 43 minutes.

Finally, Scotland’s Emma Waldie and Jennifer Lee stomped Bahamas’ Michele Moss and LaTavia Braynen 2-0 (21-5, 21-14) in 28 minutes.

In Friday’s semifinals, Munezero/Musabyimana play Ingram/Van Rensburg while Akkerman/Pepi Milton meet Waldie/Lee.

Female Quarterfinals: RWA d VAN 2-0 (21-4, 21-14), AUS d TTO 2-0 (21-7, 21-8), NZL d ENG 2-1 (21-16, 11-21, 15-11), SCO d BAH 2-0 (21-5, 21-14). Losers Quarterfinals: VAN d TTO 2-1 (12-21, 21-13, 15-6), ENG d BAH 2-0 (21-10, 21-15).
