Samantha Bricio the Most Valuable Player in Group C Qualifier
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad & Tobago, October 15, 2017. - Mexican
outside hitter Samantha Bricio was recognized with the Most
Valuable Player award of the NORCECA Group C FIVB Women’s World
Championship Qualifier tournament the concluded on Sunday at
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago.
Samantha Bricio, who last played with Mexico’s National team in
2013, came as an important addition for her team beating
Trinidad & Tobago in the final match of the event that granted
both teams a ticket to the 2018 World Championship in Japan.
Also from Mexico, libero Lizeth Lopez was selected as the Best
Libero and the Best Receiver. Sashiko Sanay pocketed the award
for Best Setter.
Trinidad & Tobago’s line-up had the most individual awarded
players of the event, with outside hitter Channon Thompson
standing out with three recognitions. Channon impressed with her
powerful kills and serves earning the awards for Best Scorer and
Best Server; she also received the First Best Spiker award.
Darlene Ramdin finished as Second Best Spiker, Sinead Jack was
the First Best Blocker and captain Krystle Esdelle the Best
Opposite. Trinidad’s libero Afesha Olton was the Best Digger of
the event.
Johanna Gamboa of Costa Rica took home the award of Second Best
Blocker.
The awards were decided according to the official VIS system of
the tournament.
