Santo Domingo to host Women’s Qualifier to Tokyo 2020
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, October 22, 2019 – The
NORCECA Women’s Qualification Tournament Tokyo 2020 will be
contested in Santo Domingo on January 10-12 with the
participation of teams from Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and
host Dominican Republic.
The announcement was made by Cristobal Marte Hoffiz during a
press conference held at the JW Marriott Hotel in downtown
Santo Domingo, where the teams will be lodged.
He also paid gratitude to the financial support received
from the president of the Dominican Republic H.E. Danilo
Medina Sánchez for the event to be held in the Dominican
capital.
The three-day competition will be disputed at Virgilio
Travieso Sports Palace with a seating capacity of 10,000
spectators.
The press conference was attended by Danilo Díaz, minister
of sports and recreation, Luis Mejía Oviedo, president of
the Dominican Republic Olympic Committee and COI member and
Jose Miguel Bonetti DuBreil, Executive Vice President of
Merca-SID the main sponsor of the event, and Alexis García,
president of the Dominican Volleyball Federation.
Also Marcos Kwiek, head coach of the Dominican Team,
Milagros Cabral of the Female Volleyball Program of the
Dominican Federation, and Olga Torres, president of COCO &
CO Sport Marketing.
Marte Hoffiz, who also presides over the Female Program,
presented the members of the Dominican team and its captain
Prisilla Rivera answered the questions from the media
covering the event.
