Second victory for Puerto Rico in Pool B
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 30, 2013. –Puerto Rico grabbed
their second victory in Pool B, defeating Chile by 3-0 (25-23,
25-21, 25-21) at the U-18 Girls Pan American Cup in Guatemala.
Puerto Ricans were determined to win and defeated Chile in a
match that lasted 1 hour 25 minutes, with better blocking (8-4),
attacks (47-37) and service points (6-3). Puerto Rico improves
to a 2-0 win-loss mark and will determine if they get the last
ticket to Thailand with one more victory.
With double digits, Genesis Miranda (17), Julymar Otero (15) and
Patricia Montero (12) dominated Puerto Rico’s offensive line.
Catalina Melo topped Chile with 23 points.
“We were always focused, concentrated and with good attitude, we
played strong against a resilient opponent” indicated Wilmarie
Rivera, Puerto Rico’s captain.
Catalina Melo congratulated Puerto Rico “it was a hard match and
our team lacked firmness, Puerto Rico played very strong, and we
still have tomorrow”.
“This is a rewarding victory and I’m sure all teams in Pool B
came with their minds set on the World Championship. Things
today turned out as planned from start to finish, with a fast
rallies and most of all being calm” indicated Juan Carlos
Rodriguez coach of Puerto Rico.
“Puerto Rico did a wonderful job, they are technically more
capable than us and I believe this made the difference even if
we never gave up” said Hugo Jauregui, Argentinian coach for
Chile. |
