Semifinalists remain undefeated at Hato Mayor
HATO MAYOR, Dominican Republic, November 5, 2022.- The four pairs
advancing into the women’s semifinals remain undefeated after winning
their quarterfinal matches during the second day of competition at the
Hato Mayor tournament, the sixth stage of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball
Tour.
In Sunday's semifinals Van Gunst/Lindstrom of United States goes up
against Dominicans Almanzar/Ramirez and Navas/González of Puerto Rico
will face Harnett/Bélanger of Canada.
Teegan Van Gunst and Katie Lindstrom of the United States, alongside
Canadians Amanda Harnett and Marie-Alex Bélanger are battling to reach
the medal matches as they did in the past stage in Managua, where Van
Gunst/Lindstrom beat Harnett/Bélanger for the gold medal.
Both teams left behind Mexican duos, Van Gunst/Lindstrom with a solid
2-0 (21-14, 21-7) victory over Katherine Albarrán and Evelyn Ramos, and
Harnett/Bélanger beat Atenas Gutiérrez and María Celeste Ibarra 2-0
(21-16, 21-14).
Albarrán/Ramos had beaten earlier Thompson/Wolfenden of Cayman Islands
2-0 (21-13, 21-11), while Gutiérrez/Ibarra battled strong to recover
from falling in the first set against Nuñez/Quesada of Costa Rica 2-1
(14-21, 21-13, 15-11).
The local tandem of Bethania Almánzar and Esmeralda Ramírez obtained an
important victory over Devin Corah and Adriel Goodman of Canada 2-0
(21-17, 21-15), to advance into their first NORCECA Tour semifinal.
While Allanis Navas and María González had no complications to dominate
Natalia Girón and Laura Quiñónez of Guatemala 2-0 (21-13, 21-8) seeking
to win their second medal of the season; Navas and González finished
second in La Paz, Baja California.
On their way to quarterfinals, Corah/Goodman (CAN) battled hard to
defeat López/Lolette of Nicaragua 2-0 (21-19, 25-23) and Girón/Quiñónez
(GUA) won to Buckner/Almeida-Anz of the U.S. Virgin Islands 2-0 (21-17,
21-14).
The semifinals and finals will be held on Sunday, as well as position
matches. |
