Semifinals set at Men’s Pan American Cup in Colima
COLIMA, Mexico, June 19, 2019. - The fourteenth edition of the
Men’s Pan American Cup enters its final stage after the
semifinals were set on Wednesday at the Multifunctional
Auditorium of Colima, Mexico.
The semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, as well as placing
matches for seventh place between Peru and Canada, in addition
to ninth place in pool-play rematch between Guatemala and
Dominican Republic.
Defending champion Argentina downed United States 3-0 (25-23,
25-22, 25-22) in quarterfinals, reaching the semifinal facing
host Mexico who earned a bye after the preliminary round.
Argentina will try to move into their seventh overall title
match, fifth in a row and aiming to win their third Pan American
gold medal. Mexico has won the 2007 edition, reaching the final
match in three occasions.
Chile moved in their first ever Pan American Cup semifinal
beating Puerto Rico in quarterfinals 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21)
reaching their best ever position. Their semifinal opponent is
Cuba, winning the 2014 and 2016 editions, the two times they’ve
arrived the title match.
