Costa Rica to play Trinidad and Tobago for seventh place
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, September 15, 2011 – Costa Rica advanced to
a match for the seventh position of the NORCECA Women’s
Continental Championship following a 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 21-25,
25-19) victory over Panama on Thursday.
The Costa Rican side took advantage of 43 unforced errors from
the opponents while committing 26.
Angela Willis, Verania Willis and Paola Ramirez finished with
13, 11 and 10 points respectively for the winners. Panama’s
Katherine Taju led the scores with 20 points while Joana Arroyo
and Hashlyn Cuero had 16 and 9.
“Our reception improved and I hope we can be better tomorrow
against Trinidad and Tobago”, Costa Rica’s Verania Willis said.
“It was an even match and we made more errors,” Panama’s captain
Arroyo said. “With our current team we can compete with them.”
“We gave the chance to play to some of our younger players,”
Costa Rica’s coach Braulio Godinez said. “I would have liked to
have my complete team for the game against Trinidad and Tobago.”
“It was my first experience as head coach of Panama and it was a
good one,” Panama’s Reynaldo Ortega said. “I learned from the
other coaches and our team battled.” |
