United States win Pool B with victory over TTO
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, September 14, 2011 – United States rolled
over Trinidad and Tobago 25-14, 25-16, 25-11 for its second
victory without losses in Pool B of the NORCECA Women’s
Volleyball Championship on Wednesday.
The chances of a ticket to the semifinals were still undefined
and pending on the results of the decisive matches in Pools A
and C.
Destinee Hooker and Heather Bown topped USA with 10 and 9 points
respectively while Trinidadian Krystle Esdelle finished with a
match-high 12 tallies.
The winners held the advantage in blocks 8-5 and in service
winners 4-0. The Americans gave away only 8 points via errors to
27 by the defeated side.
“We served and passed better which was our goal for today’s
match,” USA Captain Jennifer Tamas said. “The Trinidadians have
good physical, jump high and touch a lot of balls. It was a good
match.”
“We were playing one of the best teams in the world and I think
it was a very good match for our team,” Esdelle said.
USA Coach Hugh McCutcheon said: “I am very happy with the way
our team played. We did better than yesterday, we improved and
it was a nice, clean effort.”
Trinidad and Tobago Coach Francisco Cruz said: “I am happy with
our performance. We are very lucky to have the chance to play
every year against a team like United States. It gives us the
possibility of improvement for our players.” |
