Trinidad and Tobago earn seventh position
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, September 16, 2011 – Trinidad and Tobago
finished in seventh position at the 2011 NORCECA Women’s
Continental Championship after a straight-sets victory over
Costa Rica by score of 26-24, 25-21, 25-12 on Friday.
Krystle Esdelle and Kelly-Anne Billingy topped the scores of the
winning side with 15 and 11 points respectively. Costa Rica’s
Verania Willis collected 10 points while Angela Willis, Paola
Ramirez and Catalina Fernandez each had 8 tallies.
The Trinidadians held a 10-3 margin in blockings and both teams
scored with 4 service aces.
“We knew about the talent of Costa Rica and our goal was to
remain focused,” Esdelle said. “We are very happy with this
victory.”
“I am very satisfied with the development of our team and we
have worked very hard to reach the level we are now,” Trinidad
and Tobago’s coach Francisco Cruz said.
“We let the first set to escape after leading by wide margin,”
Verania Willis said. “Then we made too many unforced errors.”
“The physical preparation of Trinidad and Tobago was the
difference in the last two sets,” Costa Rica’s coach Braulio
