Mexico defeat Canada in match for fifth place
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, September 17, 2011 – Mexico defeated Canada
22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22 in the match for the fifth position
of the NORCECA Continental Championship on Saturday.
The Mexican team took advantage of 42 errors of Canada while
committing 27. Canada held a 10-6 margin in blocks and both
teams scored with six aces.
Andrea Rangel and Samantha Bricio topped Mexico with 16 and 12
points respectively. Canada’s Sarah Pavan led the scores with 18
points while Kyla Richey and Tammy Mahon each charted 10 points.
“It is our first victory ever over Canada and we are very happy
with the victory,” Mexico’s Cecilia Ríos said while Coach Mario
Herrera added: “The girls enjoyed the match and play very
relaxed.”
“We couldn’t find our rhythm and it was a well played match for
Mexico,” Canada’s Tammy Mahon commented.
“Mexico played better than us and deserved the victory,” Coach
Arnd Ludwig added. |
