Puerto Rico, Mexico, USA and Guatemala ready for Semifinals
BAJA CALIFORNIA, Mexico.— Mexico’s Bibiana Candelas and Mayra
Garcia, as well as Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen advanced to
semifinals at the Norceca Beach Volleyball International
Circuit, played at the Rosarito Beach Hotel in Baja California.
Candelas and García, defeated Elki Phillip and Ayana Dyette from
Trinidad and Tobago, 2-0 (21-14, 21-8) in Women’s quarterfinals,
while Miramontes and Virgen won against Jaime and Armando Lopez,
the third couple of Mexico, 2-0 (21-6, 21-15).
Along with the top couples of the host country, Martha Revuelta
and Vanessa Virgen edged Canadians Kristina Vlcek and Rebecca
Billings 2-0 (21-17, 21-19) to become the third Mexican duo in
the semifinals. Revuelta and Virgen will match USA’s Kelly
Schumacher and Angela Bryan, who defeated Lizbeth Sainz and
Michelle Alvarez (Mexico 3) 2-0 (21-10, 21-12).
Some other countries that will play for a chance to win gold are
USA, Puerto Rico and Guatemala, a country that qualified in
Men’s and Women’s tournament with Erick Garrido and Andy Blanco
as well as Lourdes Ramirez and Susana Alvarado, who will match
Candelas and Garcia.
USA also qualified with Andrew McGuire and Avery Drost who will
face Mexico’s Virgen and Miramontes in one of the Men’s
semifinals. In the other one, Puerto Rico’s Christopher
Underwood and Roberto Rodriguez, will play against Garrido and
Blanco of Guatemala.
