NORCECA Congress dedicated Salinas in Memoriam
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, September 28, 2011 – The 21st
NORCECA Congress set to be held on October 6 to 8 in Punta Cana,
Dominican Republic will be dedicated in memoriam of Professor
Alejandro Salinas de la Garza, former president of Mexican
National Federation and first executive vice president of
NORCECA.
Salinas de la Garza, 69, who presided over the Mexican
Federation for 16 years, passed away on June 8 of 2009.
A Physical Education Professor, Salinas de la Garza was the
president of the NORCECA Sport Organizing Commission for eight
years and he contributed to create the Women’s Pan American Cup,
the premier volleyball event of NORCECA an annual qualifier to
the FIVB World Grand Prix.
As President of the Mexican Volleyball Federation, he was a
major force to impulse the celebration of three FIVB World
Championships in Tijuana and Mexicali in Youth and Junior
levels.
As a player, Salinas de la Garza was member of the Mexico Men’s
National Team from 1960 to 1966 and represented his country in
many international competition including the IX Central American
and Caribbean Games in Kingston, Jamaica where his side claimed
the gold medal in 1962.
His widow Mrs Guillermina Lopez as well as his sons Cesar and
Alejandro will attend the opening ceremony of the Congress to
receive a plaque dedicated to him for his long years of service
and dedication. |
