Costa Rica takes seventh place defeating St. Lucia
MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico, September 3 2011. – Costa Rica defeated
St. Lucia 3-0 (25-23, 25-10, 25-18) earning the seventh place at
the Men´s NORCECA Championship.
This was the first victory for Costa Rica in the tournament and
they end with 1-3 win-loss record, while St. Lucia ends in
eighth place. St. Lucia’s captain suffered a minor injury and
wasn’t able to continue.
Jeffry Calderon scored the highest for the winners with 13
points and on the St. Lucia’s side, Julian Bisstte with 9.
Richard Smith, captain of Costa Rica manifested “this is one
more experience for us, and a good one because of the win, we
came from less to more in the championship. We had some
deficiencies as well as St. Lucia”.
Dayne Williams for St. Lucia said “it was a very easy match, but
Costa Rica seems to be more experienced than us and especially
their captain, we didn’t play well.”
“We´re taking back home our book full of notes to work in a
better plan, it feels good to win and I believe things were
easier for us as they lost Octave Jason” said Cesar Salas
Costarican coach.
Kendall Charlery for St. Lucia final words were “it’s not bad to
be among the 8 best of the region but we must learn of this
experience to improve. I hope for better things for my team and
I agree that the loss of Octave was decisive in the result.” |
