Mexico wins fifth place in straight sets
MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico, September 3 2011. – Mexico prevailed over
Trinidad & Tobago in straight sets 25-20, 25-12 and 25-21
earning the fifth place at the Men´s NORCECA Championship.
A demanding match for both teams’ running head to head to
capture the fifth place and even though Trinidad & Tobago had
advantage in blocks by 12-5, Mexico took the victory.
Gerardo Contreras commanded Mexico with 12 points, while Tomas
Aguilera made his contribution with 11. Nolan Tash scored 10
and Jessel Davis 8 points, the best for Trinidad & Tobago.
“We wanted the victory and we are aware that we still are behind
the big teams of NORCECA as we must improve many things” said
Gerardo Contreras for the winning team.
Nolan Tash expressed “congratulations to Mexico they had a lot
of energy and more intentions to win than us, we had no
togetherness.”
“We learned from yesterdays mistakes and we were more
concentrated today, that was the key of today’s win” said
Mexican coach, Jorge Azair.
As for Trinidad & Tobago’s coach Gideon Dickson words: “Mexico
has proven in the last 5 years that they have superiority, we
must go on forward and seek to be better.” |
