Antigua & Barbuda waltz pass Bermuda to top Group D
Marigot, French St. Martin, September 1st, 2012-
Antigua/Barbuda brushed aside Bermuda
25-11, 25-11 and 25 -12 in
match number six of FIVB Men’s World Championship Qualification
Tournament NORCECA Group D. In doing so they remained unbeaten
from all four games and have registered an unassailable 17
points to top the group.
The coaching staff sat back and watched while their troupes
exhibited superiority over their rivals in three relatively easy
sets.
For Antigua Xavier Roberts scored 14 points from 11 spikes and 3
blocks.
Brian Amaro led his team Bermuda in scoring with 6 the 36
points they earn throughout the ordeal.
Antigua Coach Fitzroy Benjamin of Antigua Barbuda gave his
assessment. “From the moment we saw them play the first game we
knew that they were not at the level to really compete at this
level so we choose the opportunity to give most of our younger
players more playing time and we were still able to win
comfortable,” he reported.
Coach Bucci of Bermuda paid tribute to the Antigua team. They
are a good team with big and athletic guys and in this
tournament they were the best team and deserve to win the group.
However there is a difference between losing and getting beaten.
We were beaten tonight. However, we were still able to enjoy the
game and learn a great deal in the process,” he intimated.
