Dominican Republic secures second place for semifinals
TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico, September 23rd, 2010.—
Dominican Republic defeated Mexico 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-8 ) to
secure the second place and play the semifinals against
Argentina, that finished third.
Mexico had a few good moments with some of its young players
like Seomara Sainz, but
the
dominican
Dahiana Burgos finished as the top scorer with 12 points for the
dominicans, while Candida Arias finished with 9. For Mexico,
Grecia Rivera, recorded 9 tallies and Valeria Hernandez 6.
“I am sure it could be better”, said mexican captain Yazmin
Hernandez. “We began with a strong game, played very tough but
we decreased our level”.
For the host team head coach, Alfredo Bernal, this was another
learning experience. “We have faced much better teams than us in
this tournament our level is not as high as theirs, we only have
to play and learn a lot from these teams and try to do the right
adjustements”, he said.
Karla Echenique, the Dominican captain stated: “We did not
started as good as we wanted, we had a few problems, but we
improved in the third set”.
“I know that we as teams have different goals and a different
level each one. Our goal is to be in shape for the World
Championship but Mexico has been doing a good job preparin their
players for the future”, Dominican Republic’s coach Marcos Kwiek,
