Dominican Republic becomes the first classified team for the
gold medal match
TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, México.— Dominican Republic became the first
classified team to the Final Four match for the gold medal after
defeating Argentina in straight sets (25-23, 25-12, 25-19).
Both teams played a very tight first set, but even though some
mistakes the dominicans could define it, while in the second
achieved a great advantage, and showed great physical
resistance.
Gina Altagracia Mambrú registered 17 tallies, while Dahiana
Burgos ended with 15 for the Dominican team. For Argentina Julia
Benet recorded 11 and Lucia Fresco 8.
“We finished very tired, specially after the first two sets, and
in the last one we were out of gas, this match was as intense as
the one against Peru”, said argentinan captain Antonela Curatola.
“Except for the first set, we’ve had our best match of the
tournament, very physical but we finished strong”, stated Karla
Echenique, captain of the Dominican Republic.
For Horacio Bastit the key was also a physical issue. “We’ve got
the tactical and the technical level and preparation, but we are
not yet in the right condition to resist more than one set, if
we had it we are sure that we could play more than four sets”.
“Fortunatelly we won and I am very happy to classify to the
finals, it is important to reach them and I am also glad because
we played with a better and higher level, correcting all the
mistakes we made in the first match”, Dominican coach Marcos
Kwiek concluded. |
