Dominican Republic is the Final four Champion
TUXTLA GUTIÉRREZ, Mexico.— Dominican Republic won the Final
Four Championship after a long battle in five sets defeating
Peru 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12).
Perú played a very explosive game in the first set. But he
dominicans tied the match by increasing their attack and
resistance, while in the third one both teams performed a very
tight battle. The peruvians cmae from behind in the fourth
forcing the fifth.
Diana Soto finished with 19 points while Jessenia Uceda scored
16 for the Peruvian team. On the Dominican side Dahiana Burgos
ended with 17 tallies and Lisvel Eve Mejía with 14.
“This was a very intense match, and this is what a competition
is all about, a team that wins and a team thata loses, I can
only say that tonight there is a honorable champion”, Peruvian
captain Leyla Chihuan said.
“We played a hot battle from the beginning to the end and the
victory was for the most patient team”, stated Karla Echenique,
captain of the Dominican team. Peru’s assitant coach, Edwin
Jimenez quoted: “We finished with a special feeling, the one
that we fought point by point trying to define on the last
chance”.
For female Dominican Volleyball this year has been a great one.
“It is great to take another title to the Dominican Republic, it
is a matter of pride after a very tough match, we felt very
nervous but had a great physical preparation and that helped us
a lot”, said coach Marcos Kwiek. |
