Serbia edges host Canada in VNL
OTTAWA, Canada, June 10, 2019 – Serbia edged host Canada in a
five-set battle to conclude the second week of actions in the
FIVB Men’s Nations League on Sunday.
The European side defeated the North American squad 3-2 (25-17,
24-26, 25-21, 26-28, 15-12) for just its second victory in six
outings. The Canadians are now 4-2.
Dusan Petkovic was the best Serbian attacker with 18 points.
Milan Katic, Stevan Simic and Bozidar Vucicevic contributed 14,
13 and 10, respectively, in the win.
Sharone Vernon-Evans had a match-high 24 points, including three
blocks and three aces, for Canada. John Gordon Perrin added 17
and Arthur Szwarc had 14, including five blocks.
Canada led in attacks 64-52 but gave away 41 points with
unforced errors compared to 19 by the Serbians. The losers also
held a slight 11-10 margin in blocks while the winners got the
edge in aces 12-10. |
