Serves of Honduras crushes El Salvador
CIUDAD QUESADA, Costa Rica, November 22, 2019 - Honduras
defeated El Salvador with a convincing 3-0 (25-10, 25-10,
25-17) to start the fourth day of the 13th U18 Central
American Women's Volleyball Championship .
The Hondurans used their serves to take control of the game,
with Dazly Durán as the most effective with 11 of her 23
points via serves. Honduras had 21 points with serves and
23 with attacks against 20 in attacks and 4 in serves of El
Salvador who committed 26 mistakes to 12 of their opponents.
Shantte Siliezar with 4 “aces” and Andrea Woo with three
blocking points contributed to Honduras. For El Salvador,
Captain Geannine Velásquez scored 11 points.
Gabriela Gómez, captain of Honduras: “We are very happy and
very proud of what we have done. We started the tournament
nervously, although we were prepared for the first game, we
were not given, but God knows why things happen. We knew
that the serve would serve us, but we did not expect to make
so many points in a row in the same set ... all this is the
result of the preparation we have had."
Geannine Velásquez, captain of El Salvador: “From the
beginning, even in training, we failed much and more in
defense, but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that
for most girls it is their first tournament, nerves, and the
anxiety to do things right affects us. We try to do things
well, I think we have been improving, even in some games we
could win, but we did not manage to make a good close”.
Caterine Leiva, coach of Honduras: “After the first game we
lost we made adjustments both emotional and tactical and it
has given us results so far; the girls have been animated
and today was a dynamic game, we met our goal today against
El Salvador. In the absence of more attackers than we have,
the serves has been our biggest weapon to compensate for
that weakness.”
El Salvador closes before Belize at 3:00 p.m., while
Honduras challenges Nicaragua at 5:00 p.m. on the last day
of the tournament.
