Seven Duos Dominate Men’s Opening Day at
NORCECA Tour First Stop
SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica, April 17, 2026.-
The
opening day of the men’s main draw at the first stop of the 2026
NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour, held at La Sabana, saw seven duos
take control after recording two victories each, establishing
themselves as the most solid teams of the day.
In
Pool A, the Mexican pair Carlos Andrés/Lares displayed complete
dominance with a 2-0 (21-7, 21-10) win over Costa Rica’s Lance
Akerson/Christian Oporta and another 2-0 (21-12, 21-7) victory
against Kymani Greenidge/Aden Rojas of the U.S. Virgin Islands. In
the same group, Guatemala’s Manuel Estrada/José Miguel Izaguirre
remain in contention after defeating Greenidge/Rojas 2-0 (21-5,
21-7) and then edging Akerson/Oporta 2-1 (21-12, 13-21, 15-11).
Troy
Field and Ryan Wilcox of the United States led Pool B with authority,
defeating El Salvador’s Christopher and Yoel Guardado 2-0 (21-16,
21-10), followed by a commanding 2-0 (21-7, 21-3) victory over
Julián Bristol/Elkreen Morton of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Also
undefeated in the group, Puerto Rico’s William Rivera/Daniel Rivera
overcame Bristol/Morton 2-0 (21-12, 21-12) and the Guardado twins
2-1 (21-18, 19-21, 15-6).
In
Pool C, Canada’s Luke de Greeff/Tynan Gannett maintained a perfect
record, defeating Costa Rica’s Yulius Brown/Sebastián Valenciano 2-0
(21-17, 23-21) and the Cayman Islands’ Dylan Lynee/William Duty 2-0
(21-9, 21-11). Meanwhile, El Salvador’s Rafael Vargas/Gabriel Vargas
also secured two wins, beating Lynee/Duty 2-0 (21-15, 21-12) and
Brown/Valenciano 2-0 (21-16, 21-17).
Pool
D featured Costa Rica’s Grant/Araya as standout performers, earning
two convincing victories: 2-0 (21-11, 21-10) against Canada’s Aidan
Labossiere/Liam Pauls and 2-0 (21-14, 21-8) over the United States’
Nathaniel Dickinson/Riley Owen. The latter had earlier defeated
Nicaragua’s Rubén Mora/Dennis López 2-0 (21-18, 21-16), while the
Nicaraguan duo closed the day with a 2-0 (21-14, 21-11) win over
Labossiere/Pauls.
Competition will continue this Saturday with the conclusion of the
pool phase and the start of the elimination rounds, in a decisive
day that will begin to shape the contenders for the podium.
