CORDOBA, Mexico, October 4, 2015 – The twenty fourth edition of
the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship gets underway on
Monday at Cordoba Arena with seven teams seeking a top-four
position which guarantees a spot at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic
Qualification Tournament to be held in early January.
Canada, Honduras and Puerto Rico will be competing in the
three-team Pool A while Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico and Trinidad &
Tobago will battle in Pool B.
The top team from each pool will advance directly to the
semifinals securing a spot in the Final Four Olympic Qualifier

in crossed quarterfinals matches.
The defending champions United States will not participate in
the tournament as they have just qualified to the Olympic Games
as winners of the Men’s World Cup in Japan.
Cuba and United States, with 15 and 8 gold medals, respectively,
are the only countries with first-place finishes at the biennial
event. Cuba has 23 total medals to 22 by United States. Canada
has finished on the podium 17 times.
At the Pan American Games held in Toronto, Canada won the bronze
