Seven Women’s Teams Remain Undefeated in a Spectacular
Opening at the NORCECA Tour in Managua
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, November 28, 2025. – Seven women’s pairs
showcased their outstanding form on the opening day of the tenth
stop of the 2025 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour in Managua.
Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Nicaragua, the United States, and
both Canadian teams displayed their full display of skills, making
it clear that the battle for the title will be intense.
In
Pool A, the host pair Lolette Rodríguez/Socorro López defeated St.
Kitts & Nevis’ Hensley Philip/Shaylee Pinney 2-0 (21-11, 21-7) and
then topped the U.S. Virgin Islands’ Verneecia Caines/Verneeci
Caines in straight sets as well (21-16, 21-9).
Venezuela’s Sara López/Darlin Rodríguez also earned two-set
victories, first against Verneecia/Verneeci (21-10, 21-7), and later
over Philip/Pinney (21-8, 21-6). On Saturday, Nicaragua and
Venezuela will meet to decide the first place in Pool A.
In
Pool B, Puerto Rico’s María González/Alanis Navas and Mexico’s
Susana Torres/Atenas Gutiérrez secured victories over Guatemala and
Costa Rica, leaving the battle for the pool lead undecided heading
into the second day of competition.
González/Navas defeated Guatemala’s Paola Alvarado/Laura Quiñonez
2-0 (21-7, 21-9), who had previously lost to Torres/Gutiérrez 2-0
(21-11, 21-17). Earlier, González/Navas had beaten Costa Rica’s
Jordania Quintero/Andrea Colmenares 2-0 (21-9, 21-9). Torres/Gutiérrez
closed the day with a 2-0 (21-7, 21-16) win over Quintero/Colmenares.
Canada’s Devin Corah/Tiadora Miric lead Pool C after winning a
thrilling match against USA’s Katherine Reilly/Maya Gessner, taking
the first set 24-22 and the second 21-19. Corah/Miric then defeated
Crismil Paniagua/Azmabeth Infante of the Dominican Republic 2-0
(21-19, 21-15). Reilly/Gessner and Paniagua/Infante each earned a
victory against St. Kitts & Nevis’ Shanjunee Gumbs/Shanella Harris.
In
Pool D, Canada’s Darby Dunn/Alison McKay share the lead with Costa
Rica’s Sofía Vega/Valeria Matarrita. Dunn/McKay first defeated
Nicaragua’s Yulimar Alvarado/Ella Resau 2-0 (21-12, 21-8) and then
Panamá’s Krisleen González/Ingrid Wilson 2-0 (21-5, 21-9).
Costa Rica’s Vega/Matarrita also secured two wins, beating Nicaragua
2-1 (13-21, 21-15, 15-13) and Panamá 2-0 (21-9, 21-19).
The
group phase will conclude Saturday morning, followed by the
quarterfinal matches scheduled for the afternoon.
