Seven women teams are undefeated in Boca Chica
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, October 4, 2019 – Women of
Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Nicaragua, Canada-A and the two
teams of United States started off on the right foot winning
their two matches of Friday at the Hamaca NORCECA Finals
Beach Volleyball Tournament in Boca Chica.
The preliminary round concludes on Saturday morning with the
quarterfinals scheduled for the afternoon.
The Cuban team of Yanisleidys Sanchez and Lidiannis
Echeverría leads Pool D with 2-0 and has one more match
pending against Melanie Valenciana and Taylor Nutterfield of
U.S. Virgin Islands (1-1).
On Friday, Sanchez/Echeverría defeated Sophie Bukovec and
Taylor Pischke 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) and Dominican Republic’s
Michelle de la Cruz and Julibeth Payano 2-0 (21-11, 21-12).
In Pool C, Canada’s Nicole and Megan McNamara will clash
with Mexico’s Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta for the
supremacy of the group.
Nicole/Megan beat Costa Rica’s Valeria Valenciano and
Mariela Quesada 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) and Trinidad & Tobago’s
Abby/Chase 2-0 (21-8, 21-14). Orellana/Revuelta crushed
Abby/Chase 2-0 (21-7, 21-5) and got the win against
Valenciano/Quesada due to injury of one of the Costa Ricans.
In Pool B, Nicaragua’s Swan Mendoza and Lolette Rodriguez
got victories over Curacao’s Andjeny Tolentino and Leandra
Savonije 2-0 (21-11, 21-13) and Payne/Thomas of Antigua &
Barbuda-A 2-0 (21-4, 21-11). Emily Stockman and Kelley
Larsen of USA-B won 2-0 (21-9, 21-5) over Jamilla Lansiquot
and Yosherbel Emmanuel and 2-0 (21-5, 21-0) over
Payne/Thomas.
In Pool A, Kerri Walsh Jennings and Brooke Sweat of USA-A
defeated Rosie/Peters of Antigua & Barbuda-B 2-0 (21-1,
21-4) and Neptune/Noel of St Lucia-A 2-0 (21-11, 21-9) while
Puerto Rico’s María González and Bianca Torres won over
Rosie/Peters 2-0 (21-6, 21-11) and 2-0 (21-16, 21-16) over
Guatemala’s Estefanie Bethancourt and Natalia Girón.
