Several couples with double triumphs in Managua
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, May 3, 2019 –The first day of competition in
the third stop of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour, which takes
place on Paseo Xolotlán, in the capital of Nicaragua, had
several couples with two wins, leaving for Saturday a lot of
enthusiasm for qualifying to the quarterfinals.
In group A, Dominican Republic (Victor Castillo/Alex Medina) won
over Jon Isaacs/Donovan Wilmott, of the Bahamas, with a score of
2-0 (21-16, 21-11) and then beat Leonel Aragón/Erick Garrido of
Guatemala 2-0 (21-17, 21-17). Meanwhile, Nicaragua, with Rubén
Mora/Dany López, first beat Aragón/Garrido 2-0 (21-12, 21-11)
and defeated Isaacs/Wilmott 2-0 (21-7, 21-9).
In group B, Cubans Sergio González and Luis Enrique Reyes
dominated the Puerto Rican teams (Daniel Quinones/Kevin Lopez)
2-0 (21-11, 21-14) and Costa Rica (Richard Smith/Víctor Alpizar)
in straight sets with a score of 2-0 (21-17, 21-15); Trinidad
and Tobago (Marlon Phillip/Daynte Stewart), got victories over
Costa Rica 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) and Puerto Rico 2-0 (21-16, 21-8).
Canada with Ivan Reka/Simon Fecteau-Boutin, first beat the
United States (Timothy Brewster/Michael Boag) 2-0 (21-11,
21-14), and then Belize (Edgar Martinez/Joseph Carnegie) 2-0
(21-8, 21-11), in Group C, where also Andy Leonardo/Luis García,
of Guatemala, won against Belize 2-0 (21-13, 21-10).
In Pool D, Team 2 of Canada, William Hoey/Jake MacNeil, opened
with a win over Denis Lopez/Gerson Contreras, of Nicaragua 2-0
(21-15, 21-17), and in the afternoon they beat Franklin
Flores/Rolando Ávalos of El Salvador 2-0 (21-12, 21-19). Carlos
Escobar/David Vargas beat to their compatriots 2-0 (21-16,
21-19) and lost to Lopez Contreras by double 21-14.
On Saturday morning the group round will be completed and in the
afternoon and evening will be the quarterfinals.
