Six Men’s Teams Remain Undefeated After Opening Day in Roatán
ROATÁN, Honduras, July 10, 2026. – Six of the 16 teams competing
in the men's division of the Seventh Stop of the NORCECA Beach
Volleyball Tour completed the opening day of pool play
undefeated on Friday at Tabyana Beach in West Bay.
Mexico’s Inés Antonio Vargas/Carlos Andrés Ayala, and
Guatemalans Edgar Maldonado/José Miguel Izaguirre in Pool A,
Costa Ricans Julián Araya/Stanley Grant in Pool B, Canadians
Guillaume Rivest/Martin Licht and Dominicans Hayerling De Jesús/Oscar
Martínez in Pool C, and Nicaragua’s Ruben Mora/Jefferson
Cascante in Pool D each won both of their matches.
In Pool A, Mexico's Lares/Carlos Andrés defeated Honduras'
Méndez/Ortega 2-0 (21-11, 21-9) and Trinidad and Tobago's
Miguel/Morrison 2-0 (21-9, 21-16).
Guatemala also posted two straight-set victories, defeating
Miguel/Morrison 2-0 (21-13, 22-20) and Méndez/Ortega 2-0 (21-11,
21-10). Mexico and Guatemala will meet on Saturday to decide the
top spot in the pool.
In Pool B, Costa Rica's Araya/Grant defeated Canada's
Charbonneau/Heider 2-0 (21-19, 21-15) and Bermuda's
Barnett/Somerville 2-0 (21-11, 21-10) to move into first place
in the standings.
Costa Rica will wrap up pool play on Saturday against the U.S.
duo Perez/Jensen, who enter the match with a 1-1 record.
The Dominican Republic and Canada remain unbeaten atop Pool C.
The Dominican duo of De Jesus/Martínez defeated Honduras'
Flores/Menívar 2-0 (21-15, 21-8) and the U.S. Virgin Islands'
Eric/Sommer 2-0 (21-10, 21-5).
Canadians Rivest/Licht, meanwhile, earned straight-set victories
over Eric/Sommer, 2-0 (21-11, 21-1), and Flores/Menívar, 2-0
(21-14, 21-11). The two unbeaten teams will meet on Saturday
with first place in the pool at stake.
In Pool D, Nicaragua's Mora/Cascante also recorded two
victories, defeating Honduras' Reyes/Gálvez 2-0 (21-4, 21-16)
and Puerto Rico's Rivera/Rivera 2-1 (21-18, 17-21, 15-13).
The men’s competition resumes on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the
final pool matches. Mexico will face Guatemala, while Honduras
takes on Trinidad and Tobago in Pool A. In Pool B, Costa Rica
will meet the United States.
Quarterfinal matches will be played during the afternoon
session.
