Soto establishes new record of points in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, November 6, 2014 – Hector “Picky” Soto of
Arecibo Captains is the new owner of the record of more points
scored in the history of the Puerto Rican Men’s Volleyball
Superior League.
With 5,152 points, Soto broke the old record of 5,151 set by
Luis “Feñito” Rodriguez, who retired last year after 24 seasons
of service.
The 36 year-old Soto said his new goal is to reach the
6,000-point plateau while receiving a plaque presented by
Elliott Matias, vice president of the Puerto Rican Volleyball
Federation and Luis Monrouzeau and Angel Edgardo Aponte, owner
and manager of the Arecibo franchise, respectively.
The match was stopped while Soto received the congratulations
from his teammates and opponent players and the fans gave him a
standing ovation.
Commenting about the feat, Soto said it is “the result of
consistency and sacrifices with all those days of practice.”
He mentioned some others big scorers in the history of the
league such as Rodriguez, Ramon “Monchito” Hernandez and Roberto
Guilloty.
“All my achievements are dedicated to my wife, my children and
all my family, and that’s what matters the most at the end of
the day,” he said. |
