XATIVA, Spain, May 18, 2015 – Hosts Spain and Dominican Republic
split the first two matches of a three-game friendly volleyball
series between the women’s national teams of both countries.
The Spaniard team coached by Pascual Saurin won the first match
3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 27-25) at Polideportivo Cañabal in
Valencia.
The home team relied on its service game with a 14-4 advantage
in aces while the Dominicans had the top hand in blocks 14-7.
Helia Gonzalez led Spain with 24 points, followed by Ana Correa
and María Segura with 17 points apiece and Milagros Collar with
11 tallies.
Gina Mambru had 19 points for the Dominican Republic while
Candida Arias had seven blocks among her 17 points. Erasma
Moreno added 14.
The Dominican side, coached by Marcos Kwiek, took the second
match in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) at the
Volleyball Pavilion of Xativa.
Lisvel Eve-Castillo, who is making a comeback from a
career-threatening leg injury, led the visitors with 15 points,
Mambru finished with 9 while Moreno and Arias each had 8 points.
Segura and Gonzalez led Spain with 13 and 11 points,
respectively.
The third and final match of the series will take place at
Complejo Deportivo Felipe VI in Lorca on Wednesday.
The Dominicans will be participating with their full squad at
the Montreux Volley Masters in Switzerland on May 26-31. |
