Special recognitions close NORCECA Congress

 

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, October 29, 2017. - The 24th NORCECA Congress that concluded this Sunday in San Jose, Costa Rica sealed with several recognitions.

 

Mireya Luis, who is a worldwide volleyball ambassador, received the Grand Cross and Honor Medal of Haiti. President of Haiti’s National Federation Margarette Graham handed the distinctions to Mireya Luis who recently visited Haiti in search of her origins and has decided to create a Foundation called “Buscando a Mireya” that will help girls to get involve in volleyball, encouraging them to become strong women.

 

NORCECA recognized the best National Federations in each Zonal Association according to their accomplishments in the past two years and with their outstanding performances hail our confederation.

 

The best CAZOVA Federation was awarded to Trinidad & Tobago who qualified and hosted the FIVB World Grand Prix. Also, they qualified to the FIVB 2018 Women’s World Championship. In addition, Trinidad & Tobago men’s team qualified to the 2017 Beach Volleyball World Championship.

 

Antigua & Barbuda was awarded as the best ECVA Federation while always being the bone of their zonal association; they always participate to the highest performance.

 

From AFECAVOL, Costa Rica was the best Federation. Costa Rica qualified to the Olympic Games in Rio in the women’s beach volleyball, who also qualified to the FIVB 2017 Beach Volleyball World Championship.

 

Dominican Republic was recognized as the best Central Zone Federation as their women’s teams have won the most medals in the under age division. Their women’s and men’s senior teams qualified to the FIVB 2018 World Championships.

 

Also, Mushtaque Mohammed presented a first draft of the new development project in Trinidad & Tobago with an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with Trinidad & Tobago’s University;

 

Dominican Republic presented as last point in the agenda, their candidacy to host the 25th NORCECA Congress in 2019 in Punta Cana which was not yet approved because Panama will present theirs in the next Board of Administration meeting.
