St Lucia marches into ECVA U-20 Females Final
ST. JOHN’s, Antigua and Barbuda, August 24, 2019 - St Lucia
resumed normal programming by recording an uncomplicated win
over Saba 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-9), to reach the final of
the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Under-20
Females Volleyball Tournament, here at the YMCA Sporting
Complex.
St Lucia, who went under to Antigua and Barbuda, in their
previous match pulled out all the stops, and a berth in the
final.
Leading the scoring for St Lucia were Clio Phillip and
Amalia Louis, who each registered 16 points.
For Saba, Shaniah Hughes had 2 points.
St Lucia was efficient in Serves winning 25-1, and Blocks
3-0. Saba though was better on errors, as they committed
29, while St Lucia faulted 32 times.
Triumphant Coach – Terry Verdant was happy for his charges
to have done what was necessary to reach the final.
“They tended to drop their levels at times, however they
were able to improve on their serves which had affected us
in matches before”, Verdant assessed.
Focussed on the big prize, Verdant posited that one his team
plays at the level they executed in their first match
against Bermuda, “We are going to win the final”.
Joining Verdant with that expression of confidence heading
into the final, was team Captain – Amalia Louis.
“We are very confident that whoever we play in the final
that we will win”, Louis advised.
And, despite losing their fourth match on the trot, Saba’s
Coach- Germaine Zimmerman referred to the continued
improvements of her players throughout the tournament.
Like Zimmerman, Saba’s Captain- Lyieshah Peterson pointed to
the improved score-line from their previous encounter as
testimony of their upward movement.
“I am proud of my team… They gave of their best tonight,
despite the loss”, Peterson underscored.
The other semi- finals, feature Antigua and Barbuda and
Bermuda.
