St Vincent and the Grenadines gets new Volleyball sport court

The second sport volleyball court, obtained by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Volleyball Association, has been placed at the hard court of the Gomea Methodist School.

The US $ 30 000 value sport court, was donated by the North, Central America and Caribbean and Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) to the local Volleyball body.

With assistance from local players, the sport court was laid last Saturday, directed by St Lucian -Hevron Browne.

The all-weather court adds to first, which sits at the Girls’ High School, since March 2014.

The provision of the sport courts to national Volleyball associations, forms part of NORCECA’s development programme.

Critically too, the courts ensure that national teams can train uninterrupted.

Vice President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Volleyball Association- Jomadean May, who welcomed the installation of the new court.

“It is a stepping stone... It is part of our plan… What we want to see is more persons playing Volleyball and getting involved and with this court… It is also for the community to take care of it”, May related.

May noted that the placing of the sport court is also strategic, as they are endeavouring to resuscitate the sport in the Gomea/ Dauphine area.

During the 1980s and 1990s, a team emerging from that community, named Gomea Bombers, was one of the leading Volleyball units in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
