St Vincent and the Grenadines outlast Bermuda for second straight win

 

LABORIE, Grenada, August 20, 2016: St Vincent and the Grenadines got over Bermuda 3-1 (25-23, 25- 16, 19-25, 25-15) to stay perfect in Group B of the NORCECA Zone of the men’s FIVB World Championships Qualifiers.

 

Playing their second match on the day at the Laborie Indoor Facility, St Vincent and the Grenadines had switched off in the first set, allowing to Bermuda to set, spike and defend at will.

 

 Bermuda had established a 21-16 lead, but a 9-2 run by St Vincent and the Grenadines upstaged the proceedings, and set the tone for what was to follow.

 

And,  although Bermuda rallied back to take the third set , St Vincent and the Grenadines maintained their shape to take the match, and go two wins from as many matches.

 

The loss condemned Bermuda to being winless from their two matches, having previously gone under to Grenada by the same 3-1 margin.

 

An all round team effort by St Vincent and the Grenadines reflected in the distribution of the scoring.

 

Opposite- Ronaldo Franklyn topped the points table with 16, with Outside Hitter- Cassius Franklyn making good with 12 points and Middle Blockers- Brendon Smart and Marcus Thomas, both accounting for 11 points apiece.

 

At the other end of the court, Outside Hitter – Daniel Fiddick was the only double digit scorer for Bermuda with 15 points.

 

St Vincent and the Grenadines bossed Spiking at 42-28; Blocks 12-8 and service aces 7-3, while committing 33 errors to Bermuda’s 40.

 

In the non scoring skills, St Vincent and the Grenadines had better sets at 45-32 and reception, 40-29.

 

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ captain- Cassius Franklyn said he was pleased with the way his team executed against Bermuda.

 

He said he was hopeful that they would continue improving in all departments of their play, and go all the way in the tournament.

 

Match four in the tournament pits Grenada who has a 1-0 win/loss ratio, against St Kitts and Nevis, 0-1 win/loss record.
