St Vincent downs Dominica 3-1 to stay perfect

 GROS ISLET, St Lucia, August 9, 2017 -  St Vincent and the Grenadines trumped over Dominica 3- 1( 25-18, 24-26, 25-14, 25-18)  to win their second match of the men’s Group E of the NORCECA Zone of the FIVB World Championships Qualifiers (WCQ) second round at the Beausejour Indoor facility.

St Vincent and the Grenadines with some aggressive spiking from Outside Hitters- Asmond Franklyn – 18 points and Daryl Franklyn- 13 points and Opposite Hitter- Ronaldo Franklyn, with 16 points.

For Dominica, Middle Blocker- Yhan Florent with 9 points was his team’s highest scorer.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, was also superior in other facets of the match, winning Attacks 46-32; Blocks 13-3, Aces 10-3. In addition, the Vincentians committed 31 errors, as opposed to Dominica’s 39.

A buoyant St Vincent and the Grenadines coach – Brian Burke said at the end of his team’s win: “We are feeling a lot better especially in the execution of this match  ... We had a game plan to shut them down in the middle and although were a few lapses by and large we stuck to the game plan ….I am happy also because we have not beaten Dominica for some time now at this level”.

It was the opposite in expression for Dominica’s head coach- Jeffrey Edmund, who conceded that his charges did not stick to their game plan.

“Our blocking was poor … St Vincent was scoring and hitting ball at us  at will … We served miserably so we could not execute our offence properly”, Edmund assessed.

However, not totally undaunted about his team’s prospects of getting to the championship match, Edmund agreed, “ By all means we still have another game to play … We have a lot of work to do…We have to try and beat St Kitts and Nevis by three luv to have a chance to be the champions”.

Next, Antigua and Barbuda and St Kitts and Nevis play in match four of the group.
