St Vincent outlasts BVI to record first win in Group K
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, July 27, 2013 – The duo of Cassius Franklyn
and Kemaul Lee combined to post 31 points to orchestra St
Vincent and the Grenadines’ downing of the British Virgin
Islands 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25- 12, 25-22) to get their wins
column activated in Group K of the 2014 FIVB NORCECA Men’s
Qualifiers here at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex Saturday
night.
Franklyn accounted for a game high 18 points and Lee recorded
13, to lead their team to their maiden victory in this the
second round of the qualifiers.
The win also condemned the hosts to their second defeat in as
many matches, but they were able to salvage one point, having
taken a set from the Vincentians.
Buoyed by the triumph, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ coach-
Dominic White thinks it was the right fillip for the team going
into their last preliminary match versus Panama Sunday morning.
“This win serves to inspire us …. We plan to take our game to a
higher level when we face Panama and come with a higher
intensity”, White stated with a measure of satisfaction.
He said that in their team discussions prior to the match, they
had worked out if we played hard and be consistent and serve
well and receive well , their attack would have been en sync.
But for the British Virgin Islands coach- Stephen Payne, it was
a case of his team handing the match to St Vincent and the
Grenadines.
“We were not outplayed by the Vincentians, but all credit must
go to them who played their game consistently … We had a large
number of unforced errors and again had a lot of bad passes
which led to our down fall”, Payne lamented.
Payne said that his charges get their passing aspect of their
game going, they will perform better.
St Vincent and the Grenadines faces Panama in Sunday’s morning‘s
first match, then the winless British Virgin Islands take on the
unbeaten Dominican Republic as the preliminary phase of the
group comes to an end. |
