St Vincent win tough battle against St Kitts 

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, August 9, 2017 -  St Vincent and the Grenadines came out better than St Kitts and Nevis 3-1 (25-23, 26-24, 14-25, 30-28), in match two of Group E of the NORCECA Zone of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Championships Qualifiers (WCQ) second round at the Beausejour Indoor facility.

The combined efforts of Outside Hitter- Daryl Franklyn- 16 points; Ronaldo Franklyn, an Opposite Hitter, with 14 points, bulked St Vincent and the Grenadines’ scoring.

On the other side of the court, Outside Hitters – St Clair Hodge and Shawn Seabrooks, scored 13 and 12 points respectively, while Rohan Jeffers (Opposite Hitter), also compiled 12 points, to St Kitts and Nevis’ cause.

The victors were dominant in most areas, winning in spikes 49-44; Blocks 9-8 and had committed 36 errors to St Kitts and Nevis’ 45.

Winning the match was gleefully welcomed by the Vincentians, as expressed by their captain – Daryl Franklyn.

Smarting from the defeat the last time both teams met in Grenada, about a year ago, Franklyn admitted, “The guys were steamed up as we really wanted to win this match and this we did”.

Franklyn said that playing smart and getting the adequate rest between the matches, are key areas for them for the remainder of the tournament.

Gracious in defeat, St Kitts and Nevis’ captain – Steadroy Collins praised the Vincentians, stating, “They played well… It was a job well done, I know that they were feeling badly after they lost to us in the final last year”.

Collins added, “It was a hard fought match, it was a battle to the end as it came down to the wire”.

Leading  the most experienced team in the group, Collins in his assessment of what needs to be done proposed, “ We are going to go back and regroup by winning our next two games and get a place in the final “.

Match three in the tournament brings together Dominica and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
