St. Kitts and Nevis weathers initial storm to defeat St. Eustatius

MARIGOT, St Martin, October 29, 2016 - The ladies from “Sugar City” sent a gentle reminder to their opponent and to the other teams as they defeated St. Eustatius with a score of 25-20, 25- 18, 25-8.  St. Kitts and Nevis endured staunch resistance throughout the game but righted the ship through good team efforts.  The leading scorers for St. Kitts and Nevis were outside hitter, Shanicia Dyer and middle hitter Andrea Liburd.

“Statia’s” tenacity was on display in every facet of the game, as they fought tooth and nail to win the games.  ST. Eustatius was led by the impressive efforts of Sjahrisia Hook who led in service points and spikes. Despite being the crowd favourites, it was insufficient to dilute the efforts of the “Sugar girls” and deny them victory.

Captain Antoinette Henry and Coach Steadroy Collins of team St. Kitts and Nevis were of the view the team got off to a slow start but improved as the game progressed.  Both indicated the team needed better communication and relax on the court.  They were also impressed with the quality of play from new team and the efforts of their opponents.

Coach Elvin Henriquez and Captain Amarikinia Robins of St. Eustatius felt their team started out slowly and committed too many unforced errors.  This was further compounded by physical and mental fatigue which led the decline in their game.  However they will reassess themselves and be prepared for the next game.
