St. Kitts/Nevis eases over St. Maarten
Oranjestad, St. Eustatius, July 10, 2014 - Team St. Kitts/Nevis
won in straight sets over St. Maarten 25-18, 25 -22, and 25-15
in the second game on opening day of the (ECVA) Senior Women
Championship.
The game was not as easy as it seems as the younger St. Maarten
team led for much of the second set forcing the St. Kitts/Nevis
vets to dig deep to surpass them.
Coach Cleophas Arrindell was upbeat despite the loss. "Even
though we lost it was a well experienced veteran St. Kitts/Nevis
team who has a core of over 10 years being together. The
youngsters were a bit nervous in the first set but showed me
that they could compete so I am happy with the overall
performance" he concluded.
Coach Steadroy Collins was not impressed with his team's
victory. "I think we played to the level of the opponents and
this is something we cannot afford. This is championship and we
have to stamp our dominance on the game from the start" he said.
Captain Antoinette Henry admitted that there was a bit of
complacency in their play. "We came in confident of victory and
so I think we relaxed a bit. This is something we have to work
on" she stated.
Shanicia Dyer of Team St. Kitts/Nevis was the highest scorer of
the game with 14 points; 13 of them from spikes. She was aided
by Brenda Allen and Andrea Liburd with 7 and 6 points
respectively. Dutch St. Maarten was led by Keichan Huggins with
6 points.
St. Kitts/Nevis will meet the hosts St. Eustatius in the
curtains game of day 2 while Dutch St. Maarten and Dominica will
tussle in an earlier game. |
